Dead or Alive Extra Figure: Kasumi Special feat. Yamashita Shunya (Sega Prize)

September 14, 2009 El Leave a comment

I just bought myself a Dead or Alive Extra Figure: Kasumi Special feat. Yamashita Shunya figure by Sega. This was originally a UFO catcher/claw machine prize, but I bought it in a local toy shop last weekend.

While this figure features Kasumi in one of her alternate costumes, another version of the figure, featuring Kasumi in her signature blue and white costume, was also produced. You can view the figure’s official product page here.

I’m not a fan of Dead or Alive at all; I actually hate the games, but I still think the girls are pretty. This figure is really nice for a “prize” figure, so I just went ahead and bought it.

Most of the other prize figures I’ve seen usually have poorly-made faces, but as you can see above, this figure’s face is quite pretty. Her having a nice face was part of the reason why I wanted to buy her in the first place.

Senshi Sangokuden: Ryuubi Gundam

Apart from Nendoroid Yoko, my boyfriend also bought me a Ryuubi Gundam!

Ryuubi comes with three swords; the other two are attached to the doohickey on his back. His stickers really suck because the surfaces they’re attached on have embossed bits, so the stickers got all crumply when I attached them. I’m seriously going to have to get rid of them and paint him instead.

Oh, and his wife was very happy to see him. XD

My boyfriend bought me an early birthday gift yesterday: a Nendoroid Yoko by Good Smile Company!

Yoko comes with her signature rifle, three additional arms, two additional legs, her shooting goggles, an additional strap for her rifle, an angry face and an embarassed face. More pictures below!

Model Kits: My New Addiction

July 30, 2009 El Leave a comment

Almost every male anime fan I know and his brother enjoy assembling Gundam/mobile suit model kits. On the other hand,  I don’t know a lot of girls who actively assemble Gundam/mobile suit model kits as a hobby. The first time I attempted to assemble one was back in grade school with a couple of friends. We each worked on different parts of it separately, and I think at some point we lost the poor thing’s head.

Fast forward to this year and you wind up with me attempting to assemble model kits by myself. I’ve always wanted to try assembling a Gundam Deathscythe Hell Custom model kit, but I never really got around to buying it. It was my boyfriend’s interest in model kit assembly that gave me the push I needed to purchase a kit. He gave me a few basic tips, and I managed to put my D-Hell Custom with no mishaps or accidents.

My Gundam HG 1/144 D-Hell Custom

1/144 Gundam Deathscythe Hell Custom; the kit includes Deathscythe's signature weapon, of course.

I have yet to sand D-Hell and get rid of its seams, but it still looks pretty snazzy. My only problem with it is that it’s kind of hard to pose because its wings are too bulky and its other decorations get in the way too.

I found completing D-Hell to be quite enjoyable, so I went ahead and bought a few more model kits for good measure.

Tamuura’s defective sword

May 14, 2009 El Leave a comment

In my previous post about DC Unlimited’s World of Warcraft Tamuura figure, I mentioned that I accidentally broke off the end of her sword while I was trying to get it into her hand. I thought that maybe I was the only one who had that problem, but two other people mentioned that their Tamuuras’ swords broke too.

So this really isn’t just a case of one person being clumsy with the figure; it seems like the figure’s sword sculpt is defective.

Here are the manual’s instructions regarding how to remove the sword:

Pulling off the said bottom piece proved to be next to impossible, and at some point I broke it off when I was trying to wiggle it off.

I think that this defective sword problem should be made known to DC Unlimited. It’s not fair that we spent good money on this figure only to have part of it break like at. My boyfriend and I have been trying to find a way to complain to DC Unlimited about this, but their site provides no contact information. The message boards may be a good way to go about it, but I thought that perhaps it would be best if I gather comments from other people who have observed the same problem with their Tamuura figures before we post there.

If you own a Tamuura figure and also had problems with her sword, post your comments/complaints here. If you have pictures of your Tamuura’s broken sword, feel free to share them with us as well.
